Sweet Flowers For A Sweet Cause
Be
my Valentine, it’s
carnation time! Here at St. Paul the students send
out carnations to their friends, teachers or their crushes. “It a great
way to get spirit up!” says Mrs. Walcheski. The cheerleaders are the
ones who had to get all the special notes that come with them and tie
them onto the flowers. “It was a fun way to spend time with my fellow
cheerleaders,” said Aubrey Fash. “It was really easy, even though lots
of people bought them this year.’’ said Hailey Robles-Homes,
cheerleading captain. The carnations cost two dollars for one flower.
Many of the teachers sent their students carnations in case they don’t
get any, and might feel left out. Not to mention just to be nice. One
class got 109 carnations! “That’s the most we’ve had in years!”
exclaimed, Ex-Cheerleading Coach, Mrs. Walcheski. Even though this year,
there were 816 carnations sold, it only took an hour and a half to
deliver flowers; they had planned that it would take three!
Most of these funds go to the new cheerleading uniforms and
nationals’ travel expenses.
The money is really for the varsity cheerleaders, but if the junior
varsity needs the money they can have some of it. The money we raised
this year was 1,200 dollars!
